Packing, and thirteen artworks moving onwards

Packing, and thirteen artworks moving onwards

My week was packed (pun intended)—packing sold artwork for delivery, packing for our move, meeting friends. No new paintings, but art still found its way into my in-between times.

Sketches in waiting rooms

On the left: Keep calm and sketch. Soothing my nerves while waiting for an official appointment.
I remembered sketching in hospitals during my husband’s radiotherapy sessions in 2023—drawing my surroundings while we waited.
Art does more than look pretty on walls—it fills our souls.

On the right: Another sketch—I can’t quite remember what it was about!

Note: I recalled a recent conversation with a friend, Rui.

Mid-sketch, he sighed and asked:
“Why do we do this, Melinda?”

“To survive in this world, Rui.” I replied.

Onwards: open studio reflections

Earlier in September, I had my first open studio, Onwards! Thirteen artworks found new homes, ten originals and three fine art prints.
Some were from 2021, others from this year. Seeing them together was like watching a visual diary unfold, of time spent in the studio.
What joy to see what began in my hands now continues its story in someone else’s home.

Bits of life

Took this after that official appointment. I like the lens flare of this photo. My husband waited for me nearby, while enjoying a read at Jardins do Palácio de Cristal (Crystal Palace Garden).

And look at these cuties: peachicks wandering in that garden! Have you ever seen them before? Little gifts of delight in my days.

Sunday studio is where I share art and life updates with people who actually want to read them.
If you’d like to receive these weekly emails directly, you can subscribe to Sunday Studio here.
And if you enjoyed this glimpse, feel free to forward this post to a friend who might like it too.

Thank you for reading and following my art journey. Writing these updates is a joy because you’re here. Feel free to reply with questions, thoughts, or just to say hello—I love hearing from you.
