About

image: a happy, smiling woman seen from the window of the train along the Douro Valley, Portugal Hi, I’m Melinda, an artist currently based in Porto.

I've been drawn to artistic creativity since young but I didn’t pursue it seriously until 2021. Over these years, I've transitioned from fine line drawings to abstract paintings. As an artist, my style evolves as I grow. Currently, my style is primarily abstract with a focus on bold colours and clean compositions.

I'm influenced by my faith in Christ—an anchor Who gives me stability in life’s uncertainties.

To me, art doesn’t begin on the canvas but in life.
I don’t want to merely create pretty art. Rather, there’s a desire to communicate through my art and the creation process; to inspire and spread hope.

My first abstract painting was inspired when my overwhelmed thoughts sought for calm. Sometimes, thoughts and imageries which arise during sermon messages, worship songs, scriptures and prayers formed ideas to develop them into artwork. I’m thrilled that with abstract art, there’s no ceiling in creativity expression, only the mind is the limit.

New art pieces coming soon in August 2024.

Here's my story.

As the only child in the family with no siblings to play with, my late mother would buy me books to read and art books to keep me occupied.

Coming from the maternal side of the family where different ones would paint, draw, play the guitar, sew, and do arts & crafts—I didn’t realise I was being nurtured by this creative environment.

Though always drawn to art and words, I ignored this artistic path, and chose safer careers for over two decades.

It was when I went through a tough period in my life: family, health, and work, that I found solace through writing, drawing and painting. And with life’s inevitable ups and downs, I continue to find rest and connection through making art.
