Give me Jesus (poetry)

Worshipping in pain, worshipping through pain.

Give me Jesus

Noise
So much noise
Talk, talk, talk, talk
Decisions
Lists
Rights
Wrongs
Justice
Injustice
Broken hearts
Shattered trust

Mend, mend, mend.
Futile effort!
No glue could fix the broken pieces
Only You
Only You, Jesus

I push everything aside
Clutter! Trash!
I break—
all the edifices I’ve unknowingly built
On people
On accomplishments
On good works
On good intentions
Lord, break them all.

Give me Jesus
Give me clarity
Give me simplicity
Give me pure heart
Give me You,
Just You.
Sovereign You.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:3 NIV)
